Windows 7 'favorites' folder keeps reverting to system default

I have added my pictures, my documents, and a few other places to the favorites folder on Windows 7—in fact, several times. Whenever Windows installs any kind of update whatsoever, that folder gets cleared out except for the desktop and recent places, the system default links to be in that folder. I readd all the folders that I manually added, but the next time Windows does updates, they are all gone again. I scoured the internet looking for answers, but there seems to be nothing about this particular problem—Which surprises me because multiple machines past and present observe this behavior. They all had one thing in common, running Windows 7. Does anybody know what's up? Is there any fix or workaround? Is this a known issue in Windows 7?
