    I had a similar incident but with Firefox. In my case it was due to a browser plugin. Firefox updated and one of the plugins/extensions I have installed (and which worked fine previously), was now causing video playback issues! It's a simple fix but it's overlooked more often than not.

    Youtube on Chrome works perfectly for me, you have something else causing the problem.

    Have you uninstalled an reinstalled Chrome yet ?
