Caught in an endless loop

I'm running Windows 7 Premium Home on my Toshiba laptop and it does automatic updates. The problem I'm having is that when the comp boots up and the lock screen comes up, it tries to do the updates, then says that the update has failed and its going to revert the changes, then it reboots and the process starts all over again. I can't get past the lock screen to shut off the automatic updates. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Can you boot to Safe Mode command prompt? If so you can disable the Windows Update service using the sc command.

If you can get there try this command

sc start=disabled wuauserv

Edit: On my Toshiba Laptop restore points do not work. Therefore I disable Windows Update and use a snapshot rollback program to take the place of restore points. You may have a similar issue.

Windows Update caught in loop (stuck at getting updates)
It seems that my Windows Update is stuck in a loop of getting the updates. I tried using a diagnostic executable available on Microsoft's website to fix the issue but it apparently did nothing. Does anyone know any other possible solutions?

Startup Repair Endless Loop
After a (sloppily done on my part) multiple driver update on 7 Home Premium x64, I've been tossed into Startup Repair. SR goes into an endless repeating loop - never reporting failure, just an endless repeat. I've used the Windows 7 install disk and tried System Restore. Twice System Restore...

WLM endless download loop
When I enter WLM, it doesn't get out of downloading mail. When I try to exit the program, I see that it's rapidly downloading 10,000, 20,000, 30,000 messages (which I do not have on my email server). It appears to be stuck in this loop. I don't know what, if anything, I did to cause this. I...
