Access to the path 'C:\Documents and Settings' is denied - Win7-32 Bit

    Dear All,

I am installing a software which was used in my old OS : XP.
But when I am trying to install it in new machine (Windows-7 32 bit).
It is showing "Access to the path 'C:\Documents and Settings' is denied." message in middle of installation.

    I tried below solutions :

    1. Running setup as " Run as administrator"
    2. By chanding "Local Users and Groups" -> Administartor (properties)-> Account Is Disabled
    3.Tries changing access setting.

Nono of above soltion worked. Please help.

    Thanks

Documents and settings, in Windows 7, is relegated to a System file and is known, together with several other "legacy" folders, as a "junction" folder. It is there for backward compatibility purposes only.
Your problem could be just that - compatibility. Try right clicking the installation file and check under the compatibility options. Run in Xp mode and also as Administrator. See if that is succesful.

davehc is correct and unnless you have created an entry "Documents and Settings" at the Root level this would be an invalid path in stock Windows 7 (No such directory). That would only be correct under Window XP and older......Try changing the target if you have the option (perhaps, advanced/manual install options?).

If this path is hard coded into the software and compatibility mode does not work for you, you could probably create a symbolic link as follows:

    Creating Symbolic Links

    I would suggest that you:
    1) contact the vendor of this specific product to see if there is a Vista/Win7 version available.
    2) You could setup a virtual machine (Windows Virtual PC, VirtualBox, or VMware) and install a copy of Windows XP, then install this CAD product as normal.
    3) If you have 7pro or 7ultimate you could use XP mode (Windows Virtual PC
+ a pre configured XP virtual machine image).
    4) lastly you could setup a Linux box or partition, install wine and then install your cad program using wine.

Any of these processes should (I repeat....should) make the process possible. #1 is your best option if the company is still in operation....they may have a solution to your install issue...have you spoken to them about install to Windows7.
