    One Minor W7 irritant

    Hi all
One problem I've noticed that W7 seems to have which I didn't get on XP occurs if I want say notepad to open a TEXT file that has a strange file type or no file type at all.

For example say I want to edit file aaaaa.dog with notepad.

I get a blank OPEN WITH and then I have to search for say notepad.exe -- all in good if you know where it is but not very helpful if you don't know what the actual program name is or which folder its in. (Some programs have different names in the menu to their actual .exe file as well.

XP always had a few default programs available such as notepad in addition to the browse facility.

I know you can rename the file but one shouldn't have to do that as the file might be part of an application which needs it with the name it has.

    cheers

    Hi Jimbo,

Have a look at file menu tools - fine on Windows 7 x64 - adds "open with notepad" plus loads more ...

That app can change the look of the context menu when you uninstall it.
