Black Screen for 5-10 seconds before windows login scre

Hey Guys
im only new hear,so im not sure if this question has been asked before,or even if its in the right forum.
but i recently just installed a clean install of windows 7(instead of a upgrade from my vista.i got the free upgrade),now everything works fine expect when after the windows 7 splash occurs there is about a 10 second delay were the screen is just black with a cursor. Could any of you guys be able to help me

I really don't know what the problem is, but I would tend to suspect the video driver. I don't know anything about notebook either, but I imagine that you have onboard video. Check in the Device Manage to see what it shows for the driver for the Display Adapter, then check with HP to see what they recommend.

I think all copies of Windows 7 do that because mine does that as well. I've seen Windows 7 videos that have footage of that also, so I think it's normal and nothing to worry about.

I agree with the above poster. Mine does the same thing, though never timed it, might not be as long as ten seconds.

ah thanks guys,just checked and upgraded my graphix card still the same problem,so it must be a wide spread problem

Have you a "Blinking White Cursor" in the top left corner of the black screen?


This could indicate that you have set your Bios to Boot from your DVD/CD Drive on 1st Boot, a 5/10sec delay then occurs before it boots into Windows on your HDD (in this scenario your 2nd boot Device)


If this is the case I would suggest you set your Bios to Boot the HDD that your OS is on as 1st boot device,


With Windows 7, if you tap the F8 Key continually as Bios loads on Start Up you are presented with a "Select Boot Device"screen, in-place of the "Advanced Boot Options" screen. = From here you can then select to boot from your Nominated (Preloaded) DVD/CD Drive, if you wish to Boot from a Boot Disk.

External HDD?

not sure but.. u probably use a high resolution like 1900x1220 or something and win 7 try to fix ur screen to the reso u have.. lower ur resolution .. give it a try

ah thanks i will try this.it may be the issue i dont have this issue on my parents pc which also has window 7.

Also i do not have a External HDD and my resoultion is 1366 x 788 or something along those lines

There could be a task called TMM in task scheduler which searches for any connected monitors. Disable that if its there.

There is one that is in "running tasks" its called msctfmonitor,also my boot order is HDD Then CD/DVD

That isn't it, leave that one alone. A list is here:

although 7 may have dropped the TMM.

nahh there isnt anything about TMM in Windows 7,is it just an issue with the 32 bit windows 7 cause my folks 64 bit does it for like a blink if that,not like 5 seconds like mine(its still an issue for me.i still cant seem to find a soloution)
