System font rendering problems

Hi folks!

Over the past week I've noticed my PC has been rendering fonts in a strange way. It's like it's not anti-aliasing anymore. Today it began to happen in firefox as well, but not on all sites. This forum for instance is displayed normally, but when I go to my google drive it first opens the document with normal font, a second later it turns the anti-aliasing off. I haven't been changing anything in either firefox or windows, so not sure what's going on.
I've been able to capture a screenshot of the effect first with normal text and then with thinned out text.

(here's a direct link, since forum appears to downsize pictures - http://shrani.si/f/9/I7/3qbt5shp/fontrender.jpg)

How can I fix this?

EDIT: To add, I have ClearType enabled as well as "Smooth edges of screen fonts".

TIA,
Mat

Weird Font Rendering and another Silly Question
I can't possibly be the only one to have noticed this, but I haven't found any other threads that discuss it. The way fonts are rendered in IE9 is just plain weird. It makes some things too big, and distorts the whole page. I've attached two screenshots. One is IE9, and the second is the...

Firefox 4 and font rendering
So I was giving Beta 6 a try, and all my fonts seemed really bad, like they were squished together, and some I couldn't even read. I started playing around with the settings, and once I unchecked the "Use hardware acceleration when available" box, and restarted FF, everything became clear and...
