Lost password troubles

Hi, I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite laptop (L505D-S5983), with the idea that I'd give it to my daughter. Looks like a great unit...except that when I was setting it up I inexplicably decided to use a password (I've never done that on any of my other machines), but got distracted and let it sit for a couple days. By the time I picked it up again, I'd forgotten the password and now this thing is useless. I've surfed around for some password crackers, but they appear to be for Vista and earlier machines, and the process far exceeds my profound lack of tech savvy. Any tips for a dolt who's clearly in over his head?

Thanks,
Casey

Hello Casey, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Other than reinstalling Windows 7, you can use METHOD THREE in the tutorial below to reset the password. It's the same in Windows 7 as Vista.

Hope this helps,

Thanks! I wish it had come with an install disc, 'cause that's what I'd do right away. I'll try that tutorial.

Thanks again,
Casey

YESSS...it worked! It took me an incredibly long time to figure out, but I was able to decipher all the steps and eventually pull it off. Thanks so much for the booster shot to my badly bruised ego!

Might I suggest that you now make an image of your system in case something similar happens in the future...
