    Pin Destop Icon to Taskbar?

    Windows 7 .... 32-bit

    One simple question:

I have a MS Word .doc as an icon link on my desktop. I want to pin that icon to the taskbar. How do I do that?

I've read the tutorials, but it's nil to me. I need a simple, straight-to-the-point answer. I don't understand all this "show desktop" stuff.

I wonder why M$ made this so complicated in W7.

    Hello hamneggs,

    Welcome to 7 Forums.

I don't know of a way to pin a file shortcut to the taskbar. You could Quick Launch - Enable or Disable and put the shortcut there or you can pin the word.exe to the taskbar and then pin the shortcut to the jump list.

    Hope this helps.

Huh, after reading this I tried right clicking on a shortcut on my desktop and it gave me the choice to pin to the taskbar. Did that and it worked.

Missed the document as a shortcut, tried that and no option to pin. Wonder why a program shortcut will pin but not a document.

    Hello Kbz,

Yeah, only the programs can be pinned to the taskbar. When you try and pin (drag and drop) a file, it will pin the default program set to open that file instead. You can right click on the pinned program icon and pin the file in it's jump list instead using step 5 in OPTION ONE in the tutorial below though, or add the file to the Quick Launch toolbar.

    Hope this helps,
