    Hello,
When I try to boot my computer the Windows Boot Manager screen comes up showing:
"A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source.
    ...
    File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
    Status: 0xc0000428
Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. "

The next screen shows the option "to specify an advanced option for this choice, press F8"
When I click F8, it brings me back to the first screen and will not let me get into advanced options.

I purchased a windows 7 repair disc and have tried the following...

    (1)
    1. Insert the Windows 7 DVD and restart your computer
    2. Boot from the DVD.
    3. Choose your language and click Next.
    4. Click Repair Your Computer and then select the operating system you want to repair.
    5. System Recovery Options box comes up saying:
"This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows."

    (2)
    System Recovery Options >
    Command Prompt>
    bootrec /fixMBR
    bootrec /fixBoot
    bootrec /rebuildBCD

    (3)
System recovery options > system restore
"To use system restore, you must specify which windows installation to restore."

    Hello Jean
I purchased a windows 7 repair disc and have tried the following.
Now this sounds very suspicious - where from and what do you mean by a repair disk as far as I know repair disks are made by the original installer as a general rule.

My advice buy a new OEM version.

Windows 7 installation/recovery/repair disc off amazon.

I can get to the screen with language set up and the link to start up repair with the disc so I know it works up until that point

Ok Jean now I still don't understand why a repair disk when personally a new OEM would not be causing all these problems. I have my concerns about anything that is sold as a repair a genuine copy etc form other than Microsoft or a very bona fide source.

Now the alternative is if you have an activation code for the Home version is to install using a friends Windows DVD because all Microsoft DVD's have every version of Windows on them and you only need to use the ei.cfg removal tool to pick out the version form that DVD to install the copy you want - Home in your case. Please see this tutorial and read carefully and especially the part re that ei.cfg tool in section 1.

My advice is that if you do try this method is to clean that drive before you attempt any further installs see this Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command

Jean could you post the exact Amazon page you got your Windows 7 disk from?

That will help us know exactly what you bought.

If that DVD does everything the seller states that would be a great buy.
    I have my doubts.

Off the top of my head the only thing I can think of is completing this tutorial by Brink and see if things work as they should.
