Using picture from external hard drive

Hi. I have a window 7 desktop and I have an external hard drive. I am currently working on a project. I have found some pictures (probably 1-10 ) in my external hard drive that I could use for the project that I am working on.

Not to sure about this, but can I go into the external hard drive, find the picture I want, click on copy, and paste it ie in my pictures? or is there a way that this can be done without copy and paste?

I appreciate the help. Thank you.
