If you are looking for an imaging program, there are several good ones. Macrium has been mentioned.

Aomei Backupper is also excellent - the free version even allows restoring to different hardware.

The only free version that lets you exclude selected files/folders from an image is Paragon.

Did they say they had removed the pups? There seem to be some remaining reg entries from what it says below.

If you google "searchprotect" you will find it is a common annoyance.
