Windows 7: Windows 7 Pro or Windows 10 Pro for older N450 Netbook?

Windows 7 Pro or Windows 10 Pro for older N450 Netbook?

I have an older Atom N450 (single core) netbook with 2GB RAM currently running Windows XP off of a hard drive. I just got a new (used) 128GB SSD for it and a Windows 7 Pro OEM product key. I'm planning on going with a 32-bit version in either case due to the limited memory.

But I'm wondering if I should go with Windows 7 Pro or Window 10 Pro on this system? I understand there are some issues getting the GMA 3150 video working under Win10, but I'm sure I can figure that out. I'm more concerned with which OS will be faster? Right now it's pretty sluggish under XP running off an HDD.

Atom N450 apparently is the cpu (according to my google search). What is the make/model? My first thought is that if it is slow under xp it'll likely be worse on 7. Not sure about 10 because I'm not a fan of it myself. In either case we need to check for drivers as that will be the determining factor. For an old system you are more likely to find 7 or vista drivers than 10. However if there aren't 7 drivers then there probably aren't 10 drivers either.

I'd install Windows 7 on it. There are currently NO drivers for the GMA 3150 on Windows 10 YET.

Again, that's not my concern. People have gotten Win7 video drivers to work on Win10 without problems.

Which OS should be faster?

You`ll only find out by installing and testing.

Probably, we have no idea which would run faster on your Netbook, we did not manufacture it.

We`re just here to try and help people with their Windows 7 issues

Here's something to go by if you want to try 10,

I tried to delete the D: partition but the delete option was greyed out in Computer Management. I read that this could mean there are startup files hidden in D: so I used a free partition management software to increase the space on C: dramatically (to over 100gb) and reduce the space on D:. The installation went smoothly and the PC is much faster running 10 than it was with 7 Starter. I suspect that part of the reason could be the extra space on C: but I also suspect that 10 is faster and leaner than 7 (with years of updates) was.

Thanks for your help.
