Do you mean programs or just any old background utility?
Programs:
Outlook
Dropbox
iTunes
RivaTuner
uTorrent
Security Essentials
Live Messenger
Skype
Steam
Gadgets
Other crap:
Some nVidia crap
Google Update
SoundMax crap
Quicktime crap
Some Office 2010 crap
CS4 Service Manager crap
Two other Acrobat pieces of crap
Another Office 2010 p.o.s
I used to watch what was loaded at startup, but since I got an SSD I don't really care anymore.
By the way this install is <7 days old. Amazing how much junk some programs will load.
Oh yeah and this all boots to a usable desktop in under 40 seconds (<3 SSDs)
He would like to know what's in other people's startup for the same reason why many of us want to see each other's rigs and/or desktops: Curiosity.
Has it never occured to you that perhaps TehWall is a rookie, and is interested in learning about what is good and what is bad, what is safe and what is not safe to keep in the startups?
Perhaps though TehWall should has rephrased his question to "What do you have in your startups, and why?". In any case, here is mine:
CmiCnfg:
This is just a little configuration utility for my sound card.
axcmd:
An Alcohol 52% utility that mounts the last used virtual drive.
msnmgr:
Windows Live Messenger that I use for live chatting with my buds around the world.
NMBgMonitor:
Nero Home. This one I have disabled.
uTorrent:
A Torrent download client.
sidebar:
Contrary to popular belief, the sidebar in Windows 7 is not gone. It's just not as visible as it was in Vista, and gadgets are displayed on the desktop.
ashDisp:
Avast! Anti-Virus
reader_sl:
Adobe Reader "Speed Launcher". Yeah, right, like saving an extra .25 seconds to open a PDF document is making much of a difference, so I disabled this one.
I have not disabled any services, and am running with the normal set of services that are installed with Windows.
Microsoft Security Essentials only. Most of the programs put in there, will run on demand and have no need to be resident.
Microsoft Security Essentials
NVIDIA Driver Module
MagicDisc (Mounts ISOs)
That is all for my startup
ESET NOD32
Windows Live Messenger
AIM
Daemon Tools Lite
eVGA Precision
I do not allow any free riders on my Startup. If I want em, I will open or start em.
That said, I have to have my Avast AV, MS gadgets and StickyNotes start up with system. Nothing else.
How many dozen hitchhikers you have in your backseat your didn't know are there? (hint: msconfig>startup)
