Did that happen to just that one file?

    Can you find that file?

You can save files wherever you want to.

I save nothing in a "document" folder and nothing on the C drive.

If you can't find it, you may have to search for it by file name.

Or make another file and see where Windows wants to save it by default. That default can be changed if you desire.

When you save a file, select "Save As" instead of "Save" and then direct the file to your preferred location.

@ fluidmotion. If you are using Word for document creation you can organise Word to have a Default location on where to save Documents.

Can you get back & tell us what version of Word you are using & we can help you set it up.

    Hi,
WordPad has no options to select a default save location it must be selected after using save as.

(This is your 2nd thread on the same issue, as the previous is...)

This is the preset location to save a wordpad documents; default saving. C:\Users\user\Documents

You can check on the C: root drive and/or on this folder C:\Users\user

Next time try to save to only on your user documents folder first before copy to another folder.
Now, you are worried, as you cannot find the file, as you may had did several amendment.
But not to worry as the file should be still intact.
Click on the Window Icon, using the search, type the filename slowly, as it will show all.
Meaning, if you type, ex. abc it will show matching filename starting, abc
This is only the best way to search for filenames.

    Edit:
Have you check on the external HDD root directory, ex. D:\ or E:\

    Hi fluidmotion

There is a way to find your saved file.

    Open Wordpad
Click on the Open/Save icon, which is left side of Home

There is all the Recent files. (unless you had already try this)
    See the picture.
