Alt+Enter Mysteriously Stopped Working

The key combination of Alt+Enter (left or right alt keys) no longer works. I first noticed it this morning and have no idea what the cause could be.

Things I've Already Done
  • Tried using the built in "On Screen Keyboard" that came with Windows 7, but it didn't work either.
  • Used MSConfig to prevent all non-Windows services from starting at boot.

  • Used AHK's Key History panel to verify that when I press the physical keys on the keyboard that the system is recognizing them correctly, which should rule out a keyboard problem. But just for giggles I tried a second keyboard, same result.
  • No macros, scripts, or software capable of remapping keys is currently running. None start up at boot either. My understanding is that unless a program is running, keys cannot be remapped. Well except in the registry.
  • Keys are mapped in the Windows Registry with Scan Codes. This Microsoft link shows that all of the keys being reported by AHK from the keyboard are in fact the correct scan codes for Left Alt, Right Alt, and Enter.
  • I tried to go into the Windows 7 Registry, but I do not have the folder where the Scan Codes are supposedly kept. I can get as far as [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout\] but that is the end of the line. Several online sources report that there should be a subfolder that contains the Scan Codes for the system. But I lack this folder ([HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout\Scancode Map]).

I'm feeling at a complete loss here. Any ideas on how I might be able to try and diagnose this further or is there anything I haven't tried yet? Thanks!
