Video Icon doesn't display right in explorer

I have just recently noticed that my video files that are of a quicktime format no longer display a thumbnail with the Quicktime Q located at the lower right corner of the thumbnail. Now I get a Generic Windows Media Icon. Can anyone help me change them back to normal. I tried system restore, but for some reason I couldn't go back to an earilier time. I have no choice but to fix the problem itself. Help!

Try file association. Try to associate the video file with quick time player.

I have played with different things and I was able to get the thumbnails to display after I installed the Shark007 codec pack for windows 7. Even .flv's! But, .mov files seem to be a problem for it. I have changed the file extension from .mov to .mp4 and there the thumbnail appeared. It seems to work even after I change it back to .mov unless its on the desktop, then the thumbnail disappears when I put it back to .mov. I don't know, sometimes computers can be so painful and fun at the same time. I don't know enough about windows os to fix all its ailments since my programing knowledge was learned on a Comodore 64 and a old IBM PC. I could fix the problem if I knew what I was looking for. Using Default Programs, see if you can associate that file extension type to open with your current video player program (ex: Quick Time) or some other program that supports playing that file extention type to see if it will display correctly then.

After looking around the web, I found out that there is a registry entry that will display thumbnails for .mov files. First I checked my registry in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT for the entry .mov and the key ShellEx. Of course mine did not have the key ShellEx, so I added it and it correct values that I found on the web. I also compared it to the other Quicktime formats that did display thumbnails correctly on my computer and used their ShellEx values for reference.

Well after a few refreshes, I now have a .mov thumbnail in explorer and even on the desktop.
