You have not received an answer in 3 hours. Usually the people on this forum answer in a few minutes (since we have so many, great members), unless the answer is not known. My suggestion. Make a restore and backup copy of the file, and a system restore for good measure. Then make the changes, if you like the results, just enjoy. If it results in problems you can just restore. You can have 3 safety nets by making a system image for good measure, also.
If you go to add and remove windows features there is an option there to switch off the Search - not sure what will happen to the actual search boxes but this is fully reversible so you may want to experiment
Just ensure you reboot after enable or disable
welli was in the tutorials reading the performance one and it was showing turning off that windows search, i was wondering exactly what does it do?
i just dont want it to take the function off my start bar, and when im in my song folder, and i start typing in the search box in the top right.
Removing Windows Search removes the ability to search and removes the search boxes. Disabling will not improve performance. Instead just adjust the indexing location to more specific areas.
Hello Sotorious,
As logicearth posted, turning off search will remove it completely from the example screenshots in the tutorial below.
Windows Search - Turn On or Off
These will help improve your system performance instead.

Hope this helps,

cant get rid of that function love it to much, it shouldnt have a huge impact, should it???? as far as performance goes.. i was referring to this 1 Services - Start or Disable
and as for power management since it has some stuff about pci e and cpu power, if i have it in balanced, i would figure that would cause some slow downs in games???
It has zero impact while you are using the computer. The indexing service runs in a low priority background thread it is given no love when you are doing resource demanding work.
Balance won't negatively effect performance of your games. It ups the power required automatically to play them. It lowers the power requirement when its not required. Computers are smarter then we give them credit for.and as for power management since it has some stuff about pci e and cpu power, if i have it in balanced, i would figure that would cause some slow downs in games???
