    64 Bit To A 32 Bit Laptop

Brilliant site and very helpful tutorials.

I think I may have made a boob here. I have ordered a second Win 7 64 bit upgrade disc for my laptop that runs Vista Home Premium 32 Bit. I'm still waiting for my upgrade disc from Dell for my desktop that has Vista HP 64 bit.

My Laptop is a Lenovo N500 3000. It has 3gb RAM, 320gb HDD and an Intel Dual Core processor. I'm a bit concerned about the drivers needed for the laptop as I've heard that Lenovo haven't provided the 64bit drivers for this model. I've not had a response from the Lenovo Community about this. I have also heard that the upgrade discs contain the 32 bit and 64 bit OS,

Do you know if the latter is correct? If not, do you think I will have a problem installing a 64 bit system?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I see that you are in England, so I will assume that MS treats you the same as they treat us in USA. I bought an upgrade from Vista Home Prem to Win 7 Home Premium. I received 2 DVD one for 32 the other for 64 bit. There is one Key which is good for either the 32 or the 64. Of course, it can be used only once. Bottom line, based upon what I know, in the USA, you will not have a problem.
Incidentally, Win 7 is really great. I had Vista for a year and this is so much nicer. Especially since there is no learning curve.

I have received my Dell upgrade discs for my desktop - Home Premium - but it only has the one disc for 64 bit. I have also purchased an upgrade disc - 64 bit Professional - for my laptop, but this has not yet arrived. I was hoping to install Professional on my Dell and use the Dell upgrade for my laptop.

If the Pro purchase has only the 64 Bit copy then I'll try to install the Dell upgrade on my laptop and see how we go from there.

If you receive a disc that is the wrong bit version, do not open it. Call the company that you bought it from and explain the situation. I am sure that they will send you another DVD. What you are paying for is the key. The key will work with either 32 or 64.

Such a shame in this Country everyone gets and extra disc. For example I have a 32 bit Version of HP, just lying around.

In any event make the call, you are not the only one that made a mistak, I think you will be very pleasantly surprised.
