Changing The User Name

Hello, how would I go about changing the user name under the task manager? I have accidentally entered an undesired user name while installing Windows 7 and I managed to change the user name on the welcome screen to a desired name. To be in short, the name on the welcome screen is different from the name under the task manager. How do I fix this?

There is no simple way to do it. You can change the "welcome" name, but the profile doesn't change. If you want both changed, you could use either the "profile copy tool" or Windows Easy Transfer. It would basically mean backing up the existing profile, logging in as "Administrator," deleting the user entirely, recreating the user with the proper name, and restoring the profile into that user name.

MacGyvr has it right.

I actually messed up when starting my new PC, but I've just learned to live with it.

Here's that link for Easy Transfer - Explore the features: Windows Easy Transfer

64-bit Windows 10 Pro

Hello DramaKing, and welcome to Seven Forums.

In addition to the above, you can:
  • Create a new administrator account with the name you like.
  • Copy all of the contents from the old account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders to the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders.
  • After everything checks out ok, you can delete the old user account from within the new account.

Hope this helps,
