    Application unable to start correctly.

Hello, every few days my computer seems to stop letting programs open. If I try to open a program like Firefox, for example, the window just never shows up.

Then trying to open the Task Manager gives me an error saying, "This application was unable to start correctly. Click OK to close the application."

I honestly can't think of what the problem could be. This is happening on a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit from about 3 weeks ago

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

What other programs are seeing this? Are the programs 64-bit applications?

    Cheers,

I was just using Firefox as an example. No other programs open either.

Also, only task manager gives the "This application was unable to start correctly. Click OK to close the application." error. All other programs just do absolutely nothing.

    Hi and welcome

There will be a log of why. Type event viewer in search. Go to the windows logs>applicatons tab. Look for errors (they have red in the left column) that have app hang, app crash, etc. To limit the amount of things to look through go there right after an app failed to launch. There will be alot of them. Note the event ID and source codes and tell us what they are

All of the errors are either "Application Hangs" (ID 1002) or "Application Errors" (ID 1000).

Here is what one of the errors says:
"Faulting application name: iexplore.exe, version: 8.0.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bca42
Faulting module name: iertutil.dll, version: 8.0.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bdf43
    Exception code: 0xc0000005"

All of them seem to involve either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, if that helps explain anything.

my friends computer is having this same issue but it's saying that
this application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005)
for everything including nvidia control panel and display properties BUT i can get in to mmc consoles and event viewer but event viewer is empty. also his task manager works

when i right click the desktop and click screen resolution. it says server execution failed.

also the control panel popup menu in the start menu says empty but if i right click open everything is still there

    application was unable to start

I have a64bit application that was working just fine before here in win7 64bit , but now im seeing this from event viewer:

Activation context generation failed for "D:\Graphics\3D\blender25-win64-26607\python31.dll". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",vers ion="9.0.21022.8" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

Any idea what could be wrong ?

    thx

so did anyone find a solution to this?
same problem just happened to me today
windows 7 suddenly restarted itself while i was still on google chrome (browsing emails, no virus i assure you), shutting down all my programs
when it came back up i could not open any programs, no "exe" files and a lot of windows service functions

getting the same error message: "The application failed to start correctly (error code: 0xc0000005) click okay"
unable to install any new programs, not even from a CD or any other external drive.

im pretty sure this has to do with something being wrong with c++

u may want to try a system restore or reformat

it's actually after i reformatted that i started getting the error
    twice..
i don't have a backup to restore to so i could only reformat from fresh partition
on that note, it is definitely not a malware issue either
