Disc Read Error

Hello,
(Before i start, yes i read the "Help! Disc read error" thread by john)

I'm having the same issue though, and to every suggestion I still cannot get in. The only difference is my HDD is not partitioned. Even if i go into the BIOS and change it to boot cd first because i have a vista dvd in there it still gives me a read disc error.

I upgraded to 7 with student upgrade discount downloaded fyi.

All of my specs are in my profile ( i think, first time so yeah. )

The things that i've tried are:

Plugged my HDD into a friends computer, was able to access all the files.
Changed Sata ports
Changed Sata cables
Tried booting from CD.
BIOS for starting order.

Sorry my mistake.

I used my computer daily, games, studying blah blah blah so on so forth. I used it around 2pm, went to class turned it off, came back at 4 turned it on and at start up after my biostar logo i get the error

"Disc read error, press cntl alt delete to restQrt" Yes a Q not an A.... and I can't get past this.

Maybe I'm way off base, but the way that I'm reading your post, it sound that you are trying to install the OS from an optical drive, to your HD. Could it be that the disk that it can't read is your optical drive/disk, rather than the HD?

My issue is the same as the original posters' issue, but once I press cntrl-alt-dlt all is good. It just seems that everytime system starts up I have to to c-a-d. Any ideas? Check dsk did NOT reveal any issues, and, as I said, all works fine.

Well, all except a problem I have with the calendar gadget...it will NOT stay on the desktop (always have to re-install).

BTW, I went upgrade route---Vista Ultimate to Win 7 Ultimate

Try tapping the key for Boot Menu given on first bootup screen, then select HD. If this doesn't show up, set HD as first to boot in BIOS setup.

Next boot from the Win7 DVD by tapping Boot Menu key or setting DVD drive to boot first in BIOS. Choose Repair My Computer, then click through to tools list and select Startup Repair and run repeatedly with reboots until it starts.

If this fails, return to Tools list, open a Command Line and run "sfc /scannow" without quotes.

Now try Startup Repair again. If it locates an OS, it should eventually start it up.

The in-place Upgrade is a corruption path from the worst OS ever into the best OS ever. The solution is to get to the desktop and run a Repair Install but eventually you may need the preferred Clean Install.

This is a great version of Western Digital Lifeguard to burn to CD, boot and do full diag/repair scan of HD. Will also zero drive when times comes for clean reinstall: Attachment 45594

Find the ISO in C:cabs and burn to CD using ImgBurn at 4x with Verify. Attachment 45595
