Is it possible? On a netbook?

I have the HP Mini 2133 Netbook. I upgraded the RAM to 2GB and im running Windows 7 32-bit Ultimate on it fine. The WUI Rating is very low. ( 1.1 ) but it still works great and I still get Aero.

I have a Samsung N130 and installed Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit on it this afternoon, it actually starts up a lot faster than the previous XP and surprisingly picked up all devices off the bat.

Actually just remembered one issue that I have.

HP DriveGuard currently doesnt work on 7. It comes up as an update but if u install it Windows 7 will not boot and u have to run Startup Repair. Its done it to me twice but first time was when I saw something wasn't recognised in the device list.

I think those netbooks are great for travel (provided they have an SSD that does not crash). For occasional checking of the mail and an occasional letter they provide a good service. But they are unfit for any serious work. That flimsy Atom processor and the even flimsier graphics do not allow serious work. I would think twice before trading a laptop for it.

Yeah, but they're not as impotent as all that, and those Atoms are pretty robust, plus the leap in battery life as compared to a 15" notebook is phenominal if you're running an 8,000~12,000mAh battery.

I can do stuff like video editing on mine, albeit about 20x more slowly than on the rig whose spec appears in my forum profile - so the Atom based machines don't warrant being classed as anything next door to useless

Look at the HTPC media centres running HD video superbly through an Nvidia Ion GPU and N330 dual-core Atom...

I guess it is a question of patience and level of expectation. I already get nerveous with video editing on my 2.5GHz duo core with an SSD - my quad core does a lot better job with that.
But here the question was a netbook as sole PC - would you go for that?

When I've travelled overseas for months at a time my Asus 1000H has been my sole machine - and it's a sweet little runner, absolutely no problems - and unbeatable in terms of portability and battery life.

I don't tend to throw heavy tasks at it because it is far slower than a desktop, but it's surprisingly capable all the same, if you are a little patient with it.

Using it with Slingplayer is faultless, as is web browsing, eMail, uploading photos from the SDHC slot and editing and archiving them, it has 'N' wifi and gigabit ethernet and naturally I keep a USB key with an XP installer to hand - just in case

It can VPN back home to my works centre and has been an absolute star, even when stopping to consider that it's been in daily use for a couple of years.

A netbook is really an oversized cell phone and that cant make phone calls unless you use something like skype. I was going to get one but if I want a small laptop I will go with an HP Dv3 14.1" and alot of horsepower will work for me. Not as small...but easily portable and can do whatever you want whenever you want. Not dissing anyone who has one but personally some cell phones sometimes have more power or even a Nintendo DSi is very similiar to a net book and fits in my pocket..lol.

If you travel alot...like a sales rep for a company and you VPN alot...a netbook is perfect for you. If you expect to sit down and have fun when you want and run numerous operations...then upsizing to a full lappy is a good choice. Its a matter of what you do and what you want to carry with you to do it. I have a 17" laptop and have to carry it with a backpack to get from place to place at times. A netbook you can put in your back pocket or a cargo pocket and go with that. Your choice on that one.

I have a MSI Wind with Windows 7 Pro installed. So far its been running flawlessly with the Aero theme installed. My highest WEI score so far is 2.9 (lowest rating is the CPU and graphics, same 2.9 score). Having used Windows 7 for over a week now, I can say that XP is definitely a bit faster (my XP was highly tweaked for performance though). I also noticed that XP gets better battery life as well. Overall, Windows 7 was worth the install.

I also disagree with the user above that says that a netbook is like a big smartphone (considering I also own a Blackberry). Hell I run Pro Engineer and Matlab on my netbook, never seen a smartphone do that amongst other things. My netbook has replaced my previous laptop and since Ive had it Ive used my desktop less than usual.
