Problem with startup!

Well, the internet connection wasn't working, so I looked it up, and some website said te antivirus program can cause that on AVG. So, I unistalled it. It asked me to restart, so I did. After that, it did that quick scan before the startup, and restarted again. This time, it said "Windows Installing Files", or something like that, then it went to the startup recovery screen. Unfortunately, it could not fix the problem, so I downloaded a Windows 7 recovery disc, and now I can access to the CMD and System Restore. There is a restore point before I installed that program, but it says "You must enable System Protection on this drive", and the box on that line is grayed out. Great problem huh?

So, how can I restore the system point, or solve the startup problem?

Please help.

Run Startup Repair multiple times as there may be more than one issue to fix.

Change your anti-virus to free Avast, which is lighter weight than AVG yet just as effective. I have had no issues or viruses with Avast in over a hundred installs.

The thing is, startup repair says it cannot repair each time I try. Now I'm trying the memory thingy that came with the recovery disc. Maybe that will help.

IF its an AV your after:

Which antivirus is best for win7

That should give you a large variety to choose from, and a bit of discussion to look through.

From your OP, Sounds like you disabled your System Restore, which in turn will gray out the option to use a system restore point.

I can choose the points I want to restore, and click next, but then it asks me on which disc should it restore on, there is only the default one I have and I can't tick the box because it's grayed out, and near that it says "You must enable System Protection on this drive".

Boot into Windows 7 DVD Repair console Command Line and run "bootrec.exe /fixboot" and "bootrec.exe /fixmbr"

or if those don't work "Bootsect.exe /nt60 all /force".

What kind of quick scan would it have done when starting up after uninstalling AVG? Describe exactly.

Do you have the 100mb boot partition, as having Startup Repair come up automatically at boot failure means there must be the Repair tools in that partition, which are also then available at F8 at bootup.

So did you run the Startup Repair that was offered to you at bootup failure, or did you run it after you booted into Repair CD recovery tools? If you ran it from CD, was it offered to you or did you choose Startup Repair from the list and click it?

THe reason is because it often fails when offered, but needs to be clicked on and run to begin eliminating fixes leading up to rewriting the MBR on about the third reboot attempt.

Both done successfully, but the same thing happens when I boot normally.

Windows is loading files... screen,
That Vista-like bar,
Startup repairer tries and fails at fixing problem.

If only I could restore those system points.
