very annoying bug in win 7

i have been using win 7 beta 1 build 7000 since the day it was released, overall its perfect but a very critical bug is:

Most of a time when a process hangs, i open task manager, go to the process and click kill process but the process doesnt die, this most of the time happens with a very wide range of programs so its not program specific

    any clue??

also another not very serious bug ive noticed is the fade style whenever i open or close a window, it doesnt seem to be very smooth, u know like it happens in 2 steps get what i mean??

    Hi minamfm,

    Welcome to the Seven Forums.

I have not seen either of those problems here. Could you fill out your system specs in User control panel (User CP link above). This may help diagnose your problem.

I get this same problem... Usually starts when one program crashes, then it doesnt listen to End Task, even the kernel32 lib function TerminateProcess cant terminate the app then Explorer doesnt open properly then takes down the whole system one application at a time It also doesnt listen to Shutdown/Logoff/Restart requests

I have noticed that Win7 will sometimes correct the flaw after 10minutes or so but 90% of the time I have to hard-reset the machine because everything becomes unresponsive...

I have no idea what causes it or why so many critical functions become unavailable but I get the feeling its a specific driver causing kernel tables or the COM class system to crash preventing the entire system from functioning

Ive seen this problem on a fair few machines after setting up win7 but weirdly enough since I reinstalled my desktop a few days ago I haven't seen the problem since the only difference was using the WindowsUpdate drivers instead of Intel`s inf update utility and nvidia`s drivers from their website, also stopped using WMP

Do you use WMP or have a NVidia graphics card because these two where the only common applications that seem to cause the problem?

    Hello dmex,
I am using a NVidia graphics card and WMP. I have not experienced my system becoming unresponsive. at one point I went 10 days without a reboot. I have had to use Task Mng. to shut down several programs and It has responded perfectly each time. My biggest problem has been with my internet browser becoming unresponsive. But in every instance Task mng restarted the browser with no problem. I have also down loaded driver from NVidia and istalled them. But I am currently using the prereleased drivers because I have less trouble in games with the WDDM.

I will agree with Dmex. i've seen it happening in a couple of installs and it only happened when I had Nvidia drivers instead of WindowsUpdate ones.

In addition, I had glitches and crashes when I installed Nvidia drivers on one of my PCs, I removed them and used the ones from Windows Update and everything is fine ever since...

Under Control Panel - Programs and features, uninstall your Nvidia Drivers.

Then, restart your system. Windows 7 will recognize your card from scratch. Then, open Windows Update and let it do an update search. It will find your Nvidia drivers and give you an option to install them.
