Help Brand New Dell Laptop with old dated folders

Hi All Please help me on this issue Today 2/12/2009 have received a brand new Dell Inspiron 1440 Laptop (WIN 7) but it has 3 folder with the modified date as 14th July 2009. Is this because they have sent me an old machine instead of new one I am confused. Directly purchased from Dell and paid full amount for new machine. I am attaching a word document containing screen shot of those folders with old date. Kindly advice if this is a normal feature with new machines or something is wrong!!!!

    Hi vicky and welcome

I would love to help but dont have Word. Chances are good it is a new machine. When the machine is setup and win 7 installed they have to load some things on the HD. can you tell us what the folders names are?

    thanks

Not a problem. The date shown is the last date that the folder was changed, not the date installed. My Dell purchased 12/08 has many dates 6 and 7/08.

    Just enjoy the great OS.

Alot of times they have pre-imaged hard drives that they just toss into the machines.
You may have gotten one of those, its nothing to worry about, if it bothers you just run a fresh install :)

    Thanks all of you

Thanks to all of you for such quick reply. Your reply has given a lot of courage to me.

Hi Zigzg3143 the folders are in C Drive 1 st folder name is 'PerfLogs' this folder is empty, then if I go into Users folder there are two folders "Public" and "Default" all the three folder has date modified as 12/07/2009. As per Dell people they have assembled this machine on 27/11/2009. I have attached a Word document with the screen shots of these folders in my first post. Thanks again to all of you. I will also get it cleared tomorrow from Dell customer care if they will be able to clear it then I will post their reply. Also in the mean time the system was giving error that LOW on memory though this is a 3GB DDR2 RAM, and TASK MANAGER was showing Physical memory usage of 2.6 GB though I was not downloading any thing and only 2 windows were open (1 each of IE8 and Firefox) and system was not opening the notepad saying paging memory low (it is set up as 9GB in the system) then I restarted the system and now it is showing memory usage of 1.2GB and I am writing this reply. God knows what has happened to my new machine I have been using it just from last 5 hours that to first time.

Don't worry about it. I did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional on my laptop when it came out, and my PerfLogs folder has the same access date

A lot of standard system folders and files go in with "old" dates -- and I do believe it's because it's the "last modified" date.

It's perfectly normal. No, they didn't send you an "old" machine.

Depending on your time zone, you'll see a lot of system files with a date of July 13-14 in particular when the final RTM build of Windows 7 was assembled.

Vicky thanks for the rep. One last piece of information. I can assure you that MS would never, never take a chance with their reputation by trying such a fool stunt. In addition, I can further assure you that if they did, they would not be so short sighted as to not to change all evidence.
