Windows 7 Shipping Delays from multiple manufacturers?

    hello.
first of all, I have a MSI X320 that I purchased in October and on the second day I registered for the Windows 7 Upgrade Option. The way that MSI's system is set up I have not gotten any indication that ith has been processed, is in processing, or set up and I sent it to processing. I called MSI Canada and they said something about waiting for the vouchers from Microsoft or some other crap and that they do not know when it will ship.

Second, in August my mom bought a HP laptop because she was told that while Window 7 will be avialable in October, computers with 7 pre-installed won't arrive into shelves until November. She was going to wait until october until she heard this because She does not want to use Vista. I registered the HP upgrade program for her and she recieved three emmails, the last one saying that her disk is being built, but last time i checked the online webside says that it was shipped and had a tracking number for THL but THL said that the number was not valid and to wait 24 hours. that was in September. if she had known that it would've taken so long she would've waited until october where there WERE Windows 7 laptops on the shelves.

it is now December and niether one of us has recieved our upgrade disks or any indication as to where they are.
    any idea why?

Unless someone here has experience with those problems, or works for one of the manufacturers, I doubt that you will find an answer here. I would be burning up the telephone lines calling the computer makers myself...especially the one that claimed that it has already shipped.

+1 burn up the phone lines and don't take any more excuses. Just be polite. They owe you the Upgrades and will have to come up with them.

While you wait, you can rest assured you made the best decision because those buying Win7 computers are now dealing with the same bloatware issues that plagued Vista: In order to get the sponsored bloatware off the machines, they need to be clean reinstalled since removing the bloat corrupts the OS. But manufacturers won't any longer provide a clean OS DVD, and can even enforce bloatware by voiding tech support warranty if clean reinstalled using the RTM.

When you get your Upgrade kit, on the other hand, you will have a clean copy of Win7 DVD thanks to MS insistence to the manufacturers, and a separate CD with drivers/apps to choose from. Most of these we've seen so far have no bloatware, something I think we also have MS to thank.

I would boot from the Win7 DVD, format your drive and clean install. The installer is nearly driver-complete with newer ones following up via Windows Updates. Apps/special drivers are on the CD. Let's hope you get yours soon, and you will if you keep on it.

yeah i called HP and they said that the had to re-press disks which was the reason for the delay. should recieve it in the next two weeks max (which is similar to what they said last time)
tried to get a hold of MSI but their line was busy.

I emailed MSI a while ago also and they said: "We are awaiting Microsoft for more coupons as we do not have enough, ETA of the coupons should be sometime this week. Thanks for your patience."
    That was Nov 6.
So I'm just checking if the problem could be on MicroSoft's end.

As explained by Acer tech support Manager:

They have to buy the license stickers (coupons?) from MS which have the bar-coded activation key.

Before shipping the install DVD and driver/apps CD they scan the barcode into your S/N account which ties it to the Vista key's OEM hardware config on your computer.

This locks them together so that the key cannot be used except on that machine Upgrading that Vista.

I had the exact same issues when Windows Vista was released. Sounds like same bs again with W7. I believe that I finally got my copy of Vista about 6 months after release.
