Microsoft -- You have to be kidding me !!

    Hi all
I can't believe this -- Is Windows 7 REALLY incompatable with one of their OWN NEW security products

Actually it does install - but on a stand alone CLIENT computer you have to do it from an elevated command prompt - and not from the setup file on the CD / DVD.

    BAD documentation - MS.

    Cheers

Well, according to the system requirements page...it doesn't list Windows7 under the list of client computers.
    http://www.microsoft.com/forefront/c...uirements.aspx

    According to the FAQ:
    Q. Which versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems are protected by Microsoft Forefront Client Security?
    A.
Microsoft Forefront Client Security is designed to protect Windows 2000 SP4 or later, Windows XP SP2 or later, Windows Server 2003 SP1 or later, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Vista SP1 Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions (x86 and x64).

It might be a 64 bit issue, but that is still quite funny.

    Hi there
it works fine -- you have to install it on stand alone client computers as shown in the screenshot - Still bad documentation from MS however.

    (Run in elevated command mode)

Did you run it anyway? Their were a lot of apps that were compatible that gave that warning regardless. For example alcohol 120%.

How is the documentation bad, it doesn't list 7. Looks pretty cut and dry to me not on the list might not work.

    Hi there
since the thrust is for MS to get corporate networks to switch to Windows 7 it's inconceivable to me that this type of product which is normally managed from a central server WOULDN'T work with windows 7 -- no corporation is going to upgrade a whole slew of computers to a new OS without having some central security system in place.

Since Forefront Client Security is one of their big marketing efforts currently I assume that it WOULD work with W7 as client computers.

It does -- works fine on a stand alone W7 enterprise x-64 system if you install it like I showed in my previous post and not directly from the setup file on the CD.

(By stand alone I mean that thee computer CAN be on a LAN - and in this case is on a lan - just that the product wasn't installed using a central server but installed on the client machine directly - I can't screw up the server while testing !!)

    Cheers

There were quite a number of problems with their management tools and such when Windows Vista was released that prevented my previous company from upgrading any of the techies because we were simply unable to perform our jobs.

So, while this does stink......it's not inconceivable to me. Unfortunately, it's all too common.
