    Tough Problem

    The Problem:
All of my files on my external hard drive have been encrypted using Bitlocker from the Windows Ultimate Beta. Tonight I installed my Pro version that I recently purchased, and I lost my recovery key to unlock the external drive. Now roughly 600GB of stuff is encrypted and I cannot access it.

    What I have tried:
I posted this in a different forum and a user pointed me to this How to restore a Windows 7-based computer to a previous Windows installation by using the Windows.old folder. The user noted that if I did this I should be able to restore the old version I had, and be able to access Bitlocker. I have read Bitlocker will remember your old recovery key in case you for get it. I gave it a shot with no success.I am under the suspicion it is meant solely to revert back to a previous Windows (IE W7 to XP, or W7 to Vista), not going from Windows 7 Pro 64 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64. If that is the case, does anyone know what the correct commands would be to do a Pro to Ultimate restoration (I'm terrible with DOS)?

Also, I do have a system restore...on the encrypted external drive.

Any help is greatly appreciated with this!

    Thank you

If you purchased it retail you paid for MS tech support. They would have the answer ready. If not, they will elevate it to a research team that interacts with the team that develops Bitlocker. Suggest you try it and good luck!
