All of my files on my external hard drive have been encrypted using Bitlocker from the Windows Ultimate Beta. Tonight I installed my Pro version that I recently purchased, and I lost my recovery key to unlock the external drive. Now roughly 600GB of stuff is encrypted and I cannot access it.
What I have tried:
I posted this in a different forum and a user pointed me to this How to restore a Windows 7-based computer to a previous Windows installation by using the Windows.old folder. The user noted that if I did this I should be able to restore the old version I had, and be able to access Bitlocker. I have read Bitlocker will remember your old recovery key in case you for get it. I gave it a shot with no success.I am under the suspicion it is meant solely to revert back to a previous Windows (IE Windows 7 to XP, or Windows 7 to Vista), not going from Windows 7 Pro 64 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64. If that is the case, does anyone know what the correct commands would be to do a Pro to Ultimate restoration (I'm terrible with DOS)?
Also, I do have a system restore...on the encrypted external drive.
Any help is greatly appreciated with this!
