For as long as I can remember, I've had show hidden files on. With XP, and with 7, I never had this until a recent reformat. There is a difference between "show hidden files" and "hide protected system operating files". This recyling bin folder should be part of the latter and not regular hidden files.

in window 7 go to

organize>>>folder and search option>>>view

then check the box of "hide protected operating system files(recommended)"
