Possible Bug in windows 7!
Okay so iv asked a few of my mates running windows 7 to see if this strange behaviour appears on thier PC's runnining windows 7, and indeed it does.
The bug iv noticed is basically when closing a specific window the 'windows explorer' icon on the taskbar flashes with a box around it and then suddently dissappears. (When windows explorer is not an open applcation). The illuminated box is only ment to appear if the windows explorer icon is open.
Step to step guide to replicate the 'bug'.
1. Make sure all windows are closed, especially 'windows explorer' folder.
2. Open network and sharing center
3. Navigate to where the text apepars 'Connections:' and click on the link right next to that. Its either Wireless Network connection/Local Area Connection.
4. Once you see the connection status window appear, containing details of the the duration, speed etc...Observe the 'windows explorer' icon on the taskbar and proceed to close the connection status window you have open.
Did you see the 'windows explorer' icon flash briefly with a box around it?
Is this normal behaviour? This doesnt seem to happen when other applications are closed down... Is this a bug!?

I see it, never noticed it before. Can't say if it's a bug or purposely made to do it though.

On a cold boot, when I open Network and sharing center for the first time, this strange behaviour happens aswell. But it only happens once when its opened. Opening network and sharing center thereafter works normally, without the windows explorer icon flashing or illuminating. Surely this must be a bug...why would it purposely be designed like that?

Yes I have seen this to, but I don't think is hurting the system so I just blow-it-off. Its Microsoft you know.

I've just tried it and yes, you're correct. The icon in the taskbar does briefly flash in the manner that you describe. I concur with Aaron in that I don't know whether it is a bug or purposefully intended. Either way, it seems harmless.

I believe that all those config pages are in fact instances of Explorer running. Do they show up as popup windows under the explrer icon when open? It may be the creation or the deletion of an explorer instance (any of those setup pages/controlpanel) that causes the pinned explorer icon to flash as it is being "updated". See if any of the other config panels do it as well...
(I hate not having my W7 box sitting here during the day Grrr.)

Wow! Great eyes John!
But do you think Microsoft will fix this problem? Only a hundred or so people will probably notice it.
