Memory whose contents must be [written] to disk before it can be used for another purpose.
Take advantage of tools to monitor memory usage in Windows 7 | Microsoft Windows | TechRepublic.com

    Hope this helps.

I think that what it means is memory that has been released by Windows but not yet removed from memory.

    That sounds reasonable.

This is the definition in above link: "Memory whose contents must be to disk before it can be used for another purpose". I read that as "active data" (as opposed the what is defined under Free) that needs to be written to disk first before the RAM can be released. Does that make sense?

I think that is the portion of memory that cache programs like O&O's Clever Cache work on by flushing unneeded memory. I have it installed, primarily because I got it free when I bought their Defragger. I guess it is good, because I haven't noticed any problems caused by it, except that it is a startup program and occupies some memory itself.

I wonder whether it is worth "managing" that little bit. Last time I looked, it was 75MB of my 3GB RAM. Hardly noticable.

Only if it doesn't cost anything to do so. I haven't noticed any effect on operations.

EDIT: It might be of more value if you used some program with a memory leak.
