I use Sleep. i dont want to wait forthe whole startup thing cuz for some reason win 7 is extremely slow on a fresh boot. Dont know if its just my computer although its pretty good. Ive had no problems with sleep except sometimes i might need to restart cuz the dekstop icons freeze up, not very frequent tho.
I used to use the normal boot, but now I just use hibernate and occasionnally use the shutdown just to clear the RAM. Instead of taking 30 seconds to boot it now only takes me 5 secondes (not counting the post here).
When I close the lid I have set to Hibernate.
Basically Hibernate is the equivilent of firefox saving your tabs when you close it, I only use it for when I've done lots of work, yet want to get back to all of it when I turn on the PC, just like a savegame shutdown. For power saving I'm programmed to turn off my speakers, keyboard lights and Monitor all the time (Sleep takes too long to recover and jacks with my monitor)
I've always had it enable, 4gb is nothing.
I don't use neither hibernate nor sleep. If I don't need the PC I turn it off. Windows 7 starts up so fast, I see no advantage in doing otherwise and I do save my work periodically anyways, and if I forget, then autosave does it. As to running 24/7 - one should not waste resources, just because one has enough money to pay for it.
off its a waste of hard drive space , and rogue drivers when "coming out of hibernation" issues are just too much of a pain in the rear
