W7 taskbar issue (not common one)

....At least I don't think it is.

I like the idea of viewing a preview in the taskbar by hovering, and then clicking it if I want it to pop up, except it no longer does this. I'm lucky if the preview even lasts .100 of a second before closing, or when it finally does let me preview it, when I click the window I want, it doesn't even come up. Or, if it does, it'll be behind the windows I have open, and not bring it to the front.

Hopefully it's a common issue with an easy fix, but as I say it's only just started happening after about 5 days of use, and I didn't even mess around w/any controls or settings.

(Not sure how to add the prefix solved)

Have you installed any extra software? What antivirus are you using? Can you try system restore?

I did a system restore, and the programs I've installed in the last two days were VLC Player, and Spotify. After the restore, it worked perfect for about 15 minutes, and then went back to the problems highlighted in the OP.

I don't get the preview to last longer than about .250 of a second before dropping back to the bottom, and if it does, when I click the preview, it'll disappear instead of bringing the window up.

Hello RVP, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might consider a repair install. It should be able to fix this for you without losing anything.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I think I've got to the bottom of the problem.

I'm using a wireless mouse, while the receiver is using the USB slot. Well I suffered a problem of the Ctrl button being pressed down, and it clearly wasn't physically stuck down, so I googled it and did some searches on some forums, and it was a clear problem that they failed to fix after years and years of complaints.

Not sure if this is the same issue for everyone, but I realized that my wireless keyboard is in the cupboard under some stuff, and therefore has all the jeys pressed down, and it still had the batteries in. So that's picking up a signal, and messing with my laptop keyboard.

I took the batteries out, and all of a sudden, the preview windows are running fine and everything seems back to normal, inc. the Ctrl problem.

Thanks again, problem solved.

LOL, always the skeleton in the cupboard coming back to haunt you.

I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted.

Wow! That's the kind of thing that could give you nightmares while trying to troubleshoot an error.

Great way to mess with someone ...
