How do I make the text in Desktop icons smoother?

This is probably what bothers me most about Windows 7. Unlike Windows XP, the text on desktop icon looks "ugly" (on bright backgrounds).

Is there a way of having the desktop icon text look exactly like Windows XP?

    Have you tried tuning ClearType?

    ClearType Text Tuner

Start->Control Panel->Appearance and Personalization->Display->Adjust ClearType text (left hand panel of links)

Yes I have. It doesn't change anything. I have even tried disabling it.

If you are a fan of OSXs font smoothing (it is really really good) then try this
Make Windows fonts look as smooth as Mac OS X fonts | digital parsimony

App is in Japanesse...I can help you get it setup

I tried the font rendering, it didn't suit me too well. The fonts look a little blurry for me. It's not as good as Mac.
