Acer Empowering Technology for Windows 7 Home Premium

    First post... Be nice!

I recently upgraded from 32-bit Windows Vista HP to 64-bit Windows 7 HP, and as I've been going through reinstalling programs and updating drivers, I've come across a problem.

My old Acer Empowering Technology software has not been kept through the installation (as nothing else did, clean install!). But I really need the old software, as it manages my webcam and the buttons above my keyboard are now nullified (eg. shortcut to email and internet).

Another problem I've encountered is sound. Other than the icon in the taskbar I have no on screen control.

There are a few other little glitches, but its just a little annoyance really.

I've been on the Acer Empowering Technology site, and although it only listed 5 different options, I chose the one with the closest model to mine (Aspire 5510 and 9500 Notebook... http://support.acer-euro.com/empowering_technology/utility.html). However, as expected it told me I was running the wrong version on Windows for this, and didn't complete the installation process.

Does anybody know of any way to get the software back?
    Many thanks, Alice.

I've W7'd a couple of recently manufactured Acer desktops designed to run Vista and which had no in house support from Acer for any change of OS. Forget the 'Empowering Technology' gimmick is my advice, and get a bulk standard keyboard if the redundant buttons bother you - but just make sure you have added all your device drivers, everything will turn out fine... :)

Thanks... Have you heard of any problems with Synaptics drivers, when connected to AC power?
My mouse sticks a lot when plugged in (with battery), and the same when just on AC power. However it runs fine without the AC power plugged in. Tonight I ran the power down and that seemed to fix it? But within the last 5 minutes, its stopped working properly again! Silly laptop.

My dad seems to think it could be a problem of incompatability of the power cable? However it worked fine until I installed W7!

I have a 7720 Acer laptop and upgraded it from Vista HP 32 to Win 7 HP 32 and the keys still work OK. I did lose the Acer networking application as that was one of the programs that Win 7 flagged as having to be uninstalled before Win 7 would install, but that is not a problem as the Win 7 networking provides everything needed for wireless connections. There were a couple of other items that I had to uninstall too, but don't remember what they were (but they were not an issue).

You may wish to look here:

Acer Europe - Service & Support, Drivers & Utilities, Downloads, Notebook, Aspire 5520

There seem to be a fair bit of stuff for Vista X64, incuding a number of e-prefix ("empowering") utilities. Some of it will probably support Win7 X64. It's not obvious, though, which bits might replace the features you've lost. I suppose that you could install everything, and hope that the result is to you liking.

I've had no trouble with the Synaptics drivers on my Compaq notebook, under Win7 X86 (32 bit). I mostly don't use them, though - I prefer to use a wireless mouse most of the time.

Well, for the sound control and the shortcuts - you'll need Launch Manager:
    ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/noteboo...6x64(WHQL).zip

The Acer Empowering Technology tools are just bloat.

But checkout ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/noteboo...0/vista/64bit/ - it should contain everything you need.
