    This is weird

Kinda strange just curious if it happened to anyone else.
installed a few windows updates and rebooted a few times and then this.
when 7 boots now it has the old vista load screen with the scrolling bar instead of the dots which form the windows logo.

also i have like 5 windows updates that are supposedly for 64x bit beta versions that will download and create a restore point and then it says installation failed

Did you upgrade from vista? Odd issues like that happen from upgrades. Always best to do a full install from scratch, upgrade installs are terrible.

Could you tell us what version / date is your C:\windows\system32\winload.exe file? and also c:\windows\system32\bootres.dll ?

Please post a screenshot of your result when you open an elevated command prompt (Run as administrator) and type:

    bcdedit (enter)

I can confirm that quipro's solution is the one needed to your problem, seeing your bcdedit screenshot.
