What is the full filename of the file you are trying to copy?

Also, because you only see a generic icon for the exe, it is likely that your anti-virus software has locked the file and is preventing it from being executed or copied. Run a full scan of the flash drive just to be sure.

Because the file is located on a usb flash drive, which is usually formatted as FAT32 (or some variation thereof such as FATeX), you won't have the ability to adjust security permissions (which are not supported by any version of the FAT file system)
ah i forgot its not NTFS...
    the embarrassment's on me...
anyways it seems that Dzomlija is correct and it might be defender or your AV interfering...

it works now... please don't ask why, I have no clue. i just rebooted several times and now I see the icon and can copy it freely. probably one of these hickups...

my AV and Defender should not have blocked the file since I switched both off before... just to check if this was the cause.

sorry for taking your time... and thanks again to everyone.

did you reboot on disabling it the OS before you tried to copy?
if not then it already got its grip on it and unless you reboot it wont be accessible...

if so i cant think of anything else but it being a hickup...

You're not taking up our time. In fact, I've just gotten out of bed an hour or so ago, and am getting ready for another day at work. This is our philosophy at Dynax: "If you don't ask, then we can't answer".

Anyways, I'm glad the problem sorted itself out. I'm still curious though as to what exactly it was that prevented access to that file. I guess we'll never now, huh?
