    Windows 7 language settings

    Good morning,

I'd like to get some informations about the language settings of Windows 7.
I'm a student in France, so I'm able to benefit from the students offer. The only problem is that, apparently, since I'm in a french university, I'll get a french upgrade of Windows 7, although I prefer it in English :/

So my question is, would I be able to change the system's language from french to english, knowing that I already have an english version of Vista Premium installed? Can we install the language packs (LIP) on this W7 Premium?
I've searched throughout this forum, and I saw some tricks that consists in changing a few variables in some register files, is that really reliable, and would it be harmless to my PC? (I don't want to risk messing it up ).

    Thanks for your time.

    Hello Elyas,
I am sorry to say that there is no way to change the language in Windows 7 for any version other than Ultimate.

I have another idea, though. Try calling Microsoft and asking to buy the student offer from them. Tell them that you want the English version of Windows 7 Professional for $30. The worst that will happen is they say no.

    Hope this helps,
    ~Jonathan

Jonathan is right from a technical stand point, but lets go another way.
Basically the US Dollar is doing very poorly against the Euro. Can you order online, from a US company and ship to a friend in the US, etc. You will get a discount, due to the Dollar value compared to the Euro, but there will be shipping costs from your friend to France. Look up the cost of Win 7 in US and the US exchange rate.

There are student specials here all the time: Offre spéciale Etudiants: Télécharger, acheter la suite bureautique Office 2007

Or if dual boot is an option, you can get a free (students only) copy of server 2008 here
