| Windows 7: Search Function is missing |

Search Function is missing So I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my netbook, and eeepc 1000HA, and the weirdest thing, there is no search capability in the computer dialogue or on the start menu. I looked everywhere and it seems nobody has had a similar issue. I thought I would see if anyone has any ideas.
I think there may be a driver missing, because it does not recognize the storage partition on the same drive as the operating system as well. I wasn't sure if this could cause indexing problems and the search not to appear. It works fine on my big computer. Also has reduced display support. It wont use the full resolution.
Just so you know what I have tried, I have all the current drivers installed from the Asus website, current bios, and all the Windows updates are current. Any help would be appreciated. I would really like to be able to find files on my netbook once again. | My System Specs |

Is the "search box" still there?
I wonder if you (or someone) has changed some property on the entire drive.
Hidden all files for instance...I have not heard this one before. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Keeps changing - (Custom) OS Windows 7 Professional x64 CPU Intel Core i7 860 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P Memory 4GB DDR3 Mushkin 1600Mhz @ 7-8-7-20 Graphics Card MSI GTS250 1GB DDR3 Twin Frozr Sound Card Onboard realtek Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster 24" P2450 + Samsung 20" 2033 Screen Resolution 1920 X 1080 and 1600 X 900 (#2 system 1440 X 900) Keyboard Gigabyte USB keyboard Mouse Microsoft wireless laser mouse 5000 PSU Corsair 750 HX Modular Case Lancool PC-K62 Cooling Cooler Master TX3 CPU cooler and 4-140mm and 1-120mm case Hard Drives Patriot Inferno 120GB SSD + 3 WD Blue 640GB drives Internet Speed 7 Mb down 1.5 up Other Info System #2: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T (Freezer 7 Pro cooler) - Gigabyte 880GMA-UD2H - WD 500GB Black - 9500GT (1GB) 500W OCZ modular PSU - Antec 200 case. Sounds to me like it might be a group policy issue. Sorry, I'm outta time to outline a procedure right now, but you can look around for yourself in the group policy editor.
I'll revisit this later. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Asus N73SV OS Windows 7 x64 Ultimate SP1 CPU Core i7-2630QM Motherboard Intel HM 65 Memory 6 GB DDR3 Graphics Card Nvidia GT 540M / Intel HD 3000 - Optimus switching Sound Card HD Audio (Intel Azalia/Realtek) ALC269 Monitor(s) Displays LED flat panel Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Hard Drives 2x Seagate Momentus 640 GB - 1,28 TB in total Internet Speed 4 MB/256 kbps Other Info External HDs

Just put in the Windows 7 setup disk and select "repair" when given the chance.
It doesnt delete any personal data or software, just scans for errors in the windows installation and fixes them. It has worked for me a few times. Try it out.
