    Search Facility

    Hi I'm a newbie...until recently I had xp as my operating system and found the start/ search facility very useful in identifying recent activity, particularly searching for files and folders installed by date. For example this allowed me to identify which files etc had been added to my system so far "today".

    However this facility does not seem to be present in win 7, or have I missed something? Can anyone suggest how to identify "today's activity" in win 7 ?

    Hope I've explained myself ok and apologise if not.

    Just type your query into the search window on the Start Menu and it will automatically look for the file. If it doesn't find the files that you want, then open Indexing Options from the Control Panel, and select the additional location(s) that you want it to look. Once that is done, select the Advanced Option button at the bottom, and in Troubleshooting, select the replace and rebuild button. Then sit back and wait for a while, because it takes a while for it to finish.

    Thanks for that. However what I really liked in the xp version was the ability to search for "all files and folders created or modified between (these) dates..." Is it possible to do this in win 7 ? Thank you in advance .

    Probably, but not with any features built into W7, however I can't think of anywhere to point you at the moment.

    In the search box... "datemodified:today" done...
    http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/win...echniques.aspx

    date:>2/7/05<2/10/05
    Searches for a date in the Date property between the values 2/7/05 and 2/10/05, excluding the end dates
    date:>=2/7/05<=2/10/05
    Searches for a date in the Date property between the values 2/7/05 and 2/10/05, including the end dates
    Also just by clicking on the search box, the drop down has "Date modified" by clicking that you get even more options. (including a calendar!)
