    Odd style right click menu

Hey. I've had this problem for a couple of weeks on Vista, but I recently upgraded to 7 and the problem is still there. If I right click in Documents (for example, but the problem is in every folder) the menu looks like so:

As it should. However, if I directly right click on a file or folder the menu turns like so:

How can I fix this? I know it's minor, but it bugs me.

    Thanks.

Hello Rayman, welcome to the Seven forums.

The right click menu is called Context Menu for a reason: it changes depending on the context. When you open context menu in a folder by right clicking empty space inside this folder, you get the menu as in your first image.

If you then open a context menu for a specified file or folder by right clicking above it, you get context menu for that item, as in your second image.

Your context menu's are working just as they should work, so there's nothing to fix.

    Rayman, welcome to the forum.

Doesn't look like a bug to me, but the way it should be. The first is nothing selected/highlighted in the folder, and the second is when a file/folder is selected/highlighted.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses.

I found this thread which is the same problem I am having. Turns out AVG is casuing the problem. I followed this post's advice of disabling the AVG context menu, and it fixed the problem. However, it was handy having that option there -- is there a way to enable it but still have the correct looking menu? Will I have to wait for AVG to update/fix this before I can?

There is nothing wrong. What exactly are you trying to get rid of, the AVG entry? If so, that's there as it should be for a file, so you can ask AVG to check the file for infection.

Can you explain exactly what you don't like about the file context menu?

You can add shortcuts tot he context menu so I have to assume it works to remove them too.

    Maybe this will help you.

Context Menu - Add Shortcuts with Icons

Also, most programs have an option to remove their entry from the context menu. AVG probably has this, but some of them are hard to find.

You should be able to do it from the registry.

An easy way to handle context menu items is with Glaryutilities - great all round free app.
