What do i do in this case?

So i have Windows 7 installed on the laptop I am using now. And i upgraded from a CD that i bought.
Unfortunatly, it seems as if my hard drive is going to fail soon. So i have made the decision to buy a new hard drive.

But the problem I have is I'm wondering how will i install windows 7 again? Will the product key still work? or will i have to call Microsoft and explain what happened so they can give me a new product key?

It should still work np, If for some unknown reason it makes you call for activation code it will ask you how many computers is this installed on, just say 1 and gtg. its all a recording.

A retail copy of Windows 7 can be migrated to any machine of your choice for life.

In your case, it will see that you are using the same hardware signature and probably not even require the normal robocall to MS when a previous install needs deactivating before activating the new install.

If you have an Upgrade version, then installing to a blank HD requires a workaround approved by MS to save us the trouble of having to reinstall XP/Vista: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version
