The reason Programs must be reinstalled is because they install into dozens of registry keys (the computer's "switchboard") and elsewhere, so there is no way to do that just by moving a file back into Programs FIles.
i just deleted them myself as they seem to be unuseable anyway ,BUT CHECK BEFORE DELETING,gives you back some gbs
i checked the control pannel -> programs and features. there were only like 3 things listed there. If i look at the program files from Date Created, is it safe to say any folder created after i installed Windows 7 are from Windows XP? im not even sure, because there are folders I thought were originaly in the Windows 7 program files folder that are from July i think
Just a thought, when you install Win 7 that should be your first restore point surely that is before you transferred any prog's from win.old, go back to that point and you won't have to delete anything.

how do i perform a restore point? will that work? will that bring back anything I deleted after upgrading to Windows 7?

Look in All Programs>Accessories>System Tools for System Restore. Show all restore points and see if there is a restore point before you copied the files into Programs.
If so, select it and see what Programs will need to be reinstalled as a result of restoring. Make your decisiion, which is reversible by simply undoing the Restore Point in the same place.
