    How to search the forums

    Hi

Is there a sticky somewhere that describes how to search the W7 forums in some sort of advanced mode - so that looking for "change default" doesn't return every post with either "change" or "default" in it, for instance? I tried searching on "search", but of course that returned many, many pages.

    Thanks

    Hi Mary,

The advanced search is available as an option from the search button on the ribbon.

Hopefully this will allow you to better find exactly what you are looking for :)

Nigel, thanks. I should have said that I already have a link to that page. But I don't see anywhere a way of searching for an exact phrase, e.g. "default user" or for that matter "windows 7". I've tried "default AND user", I've tried " "default user" " (i.e. enclosing the phrase in double quotes). But whatever search strategy I try, I either get 'no matches' or matches for every occurrence of both terms.

    Am I missing something?

    Hi Mary,

At the moment that is the best we have , which is the default forum search.

I know we have a Google search, at the sister site Vista Forums which has all the bells & whistles, and I'm sure this will be added to this site as soon as practicable.

You should be able to use the Google "search this site" option, to gain the added functionality, until the actual search option is added.

I will mention this to the site admins to see when there are plans for inclusion

I've now added the google custom search to the dropdown and the main search page, this gives far better results
