HP Photosmart c6180 not compatible with Windows 7?

I upgraded my laptop from Vista to Windows 7. I'm on a wireless network and tried to print onto my HP Photosmart c6180 and it didnt' work. So I figured I would go to HP's website to see if there was an additional patch to download and sure enough there was. But it still didn't print.

Long story short, I uninstalled and then went to HP's website to reinstall for Windows 7. The file name was: AIO_CDA_FSW_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe(1/1 , 290.27M).

I kept getting "timed out" errors from their website during the download process so after a few tries, I ended up calling HP's tech support to ask why their version for Windows 7 was not working? They told me that my printer was not compatible with Windows 7 yet it simply was available on for download on their website. What gives? Can anyone please help me to get my new Windows 7 to work with my printer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much and happy new year!

Hi and welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I would like to make sure. Did you try Windows Vista's drivers on Windows 7? You can try to run them in compatibility mode by right clicking on the setup file, then Properties, Compatibility tab.

    Give us feedback.

I have just downloaded this file from HP without any problem. I don't have your printer, so I can't test it, but the similar file (with the 13.1 driver version) for my printer (C5280) works perfectly.

There is not need for Vista drivers though. On the HP site, go to your printer model choose your operating system - I picked 7 x64 - then download the full package software. This should be compatible with 7 without any compatibility issues - at least that's how it works for my C5280.

I don't have anything HP related and I didn't check the website either. :\ Sorry for that.

I'm sorry Lebon14, can you provide me detailed instructions on how to do that? The download from the site won't complete so I can't open the proper file.

Unifex: I've gone to HP's site and chose the proper OS which is: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit) but during the download process it keeps timing out? I'm frustrated that HP offers the download but yet it won't download. It simply keeps telling me that the operation timed out.

I called HP's tech customer service and told them of the "operation timed out" problem and they said that my printer is not compatible with Windows 7. I told the customer service rep, "then why is it offered on your website?!" Of course they told me that for $39.99, they would get it fixed. Not fair HP!

I also tried to download Windows Vista version and it is still giving me the "operation timed out". Sigh....help!!!

If my HP C4100 series is compatible with Win 7, then your printer is surely compatible too.

If you have the printer plugged in, unplug it from the USB port. Plug it back in, then turn it on. Does your computer see it?

    Hi,
I have that exact same printer (C6180) and downloaded the full 64bit version of that printer drivers and software from the HP website, installed that file on my 64Bit Windows 7 PC and everything works as intended by HP. So compatibilty shold not be a problem for you.
