I seem to have been very lucky until 7057, all new builds seemed better but 7057 will not even install on my desktop for some reason, but its working great on my laptop, better than 7048 as far as i can tell but not much in it.

Not to mention the 2010 expiration.
It *might* install on your desktop -- sometimes you have to wait as long as 10 mins before you get the language screen prompt and then the rest of the install goes smoothly

-- on a decent desktop you won't see much disk activity (if any) after the initial load.

The 7057 long install startup seems to be WORSE on higher end computers than lower end hardware such as the typical Laptop -- and as it's an "Unofficial" build it could be doing ALL SORTS of HARDWARE probing at startup and making some extra detailed analysis which *might* or *might not* be sent back to Microsoft.

Who knows -- the 7057 build might have been specifically designed to collect all this stuff at start up -- and these builds often have other debug and diagnostic checks in then which don't exist in prior or suceeding builds and certainly not in the final.

So long as the funny ring is rotating on the install screen and you can move the mouse the installation is proceeding.

IMO build 7048 is the best one yet (haven't had a chance to "acquire" 7061 yet) but other people report that after you eventually get it installed 7057 is good too.

    Cheers

7057 is worse for many people. For me it was OK, I had only had problem with the Screen Saver, or Display Standby modes, anyway it is fine.

7057 was better than 7048 for me. I was amazed at the speed of the install and its been stable since.

Hi all -- just goes to show -- both 7048 and 7057 are essentially Good builds -- still a few things broken such as WEI and install "quirks" which result in some people seeing quite long delays before getting the Language selection screen.

All in all a good omen for RC1. I'll see what 7061 brings before "installing" it -- nothing on my system is currently broken, and it seems to run nice and fast so I see no need to upgrade (yet again)

I DO like the Mar 2010 install expiry as I thought Aug would be a bit too quick to end W7 testing and I didn't relish the thought of dropping back to VISTA .

I was using XP PRO 64 bit before W7 on my main machine. Lightning fast OS. I didn't like VISTA but now I've got used to W7 maybe that wouldn't be such an issue any more. I can definitely say that in my experience W7 beats VISTA for performance any which way from Sunday -- It's still not as fast as XP PRO 64 bit -- but I've had time to optimise and "vLite" that system whereas I'm using W7 "Straight out of the box".

    Cheers
