Windows 7 Ult 64bit

Toshiba Satellite A300

Hi there this is my first post would like to say hi. I have 7 installed on my desktop and Im loving it so far. I wish it were the same for my laptop though..

Its a Toshiba A300 (model PSAG4C-05U01C) it came pre-loaded with vista 64 and did not come with any driver/or refresh cd whatsoever.

I would like to do a clean install of 7, but im not sure if I'll have driver issues with this hardware. I cant seem to find anything specifically for 7, can someone point me to the right direction pls?

Also theres seems to be the odd time ill run into the odd app that only runs on 32bit. Would you guys recommend using a 32bit version? or is it better to stick with 64 w/ this laptop?

thanks

Windows 7 Enterprise (x64); Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64)

A quick look at your system specs: I would say it should run Windows 7 just fine. I would go with 64bit that is the wave of the future. Many 32bit older applications will run on Windows 7 x64, however there are some that just don't work.

The drivers are in the Windows 7 DVD, or arrive afterwards in Windows Updates.

Any drivers missing in Device Manager after install can be found on Toshiba Support Downloads page for your model computer.

You can also back up from Vista your Windows/System32/Drivers folder to browse for any missing drivers after install.

Here's a complete driver list for your pc
Windows7. Your PC, simplified.

If your pc came pre loaded with a 64 bit OS you shouldn't have any worries. Make sure you go into device manager and make a complete list of your currently installed hardware devices. I've done a clean install on my Toshiba P300 and there have been a few devices that Windows 7 was unable to recognize during install. As long as you know what hardware your pc is running, downloading and installing the drivers are a breeze. These missing drivers were in no way critical to the over all function of the pc.

Windows 7 Ult 64bit

Thanks for the replys and the links guys,

mckillwashere, yea mine came 64 version and has 3GBs ram. I might run the 32bit like you did for the same exact reasons (thats how I felt w/vista 64 anyway)

Win7 64bit Ultimate

Don't be shy about 64bit Windows 7, I recently bought a Toshiba P505-S8950 Satellite that had Vista 64bit installed. I bought a oem copy of 64bit Windows 7 ultimate and installed it, I was happy to find that I only had to scrounge for a couple of device
drivers, the touchpad driver and the SDcard reader drivers. I found both of these
on the toshiba website under Vista 64bit there were none available under Windows 7.

I hope this helps you decide!

Im a 64bit fan boy,
If your iffy, load 64 bit, put on some of your basic programs. See how she runs. If its to slow try 32bit

If you have ATI graphics (specifically ATI mobility radeon HD 3650) I would proceed with caution. I have tried both Windows 7 64 and 32 bit and am having problems with the video card causing Windows to crash. I have tried about everything (installing old drivers / rolling back, reinstalling drivers) and I am still having crashing problems. I am still working on resolution...
