    Mute button/volume buttons launch application

I have recently purchased an HP Pavilion laptop pc with Windows 7.

Whenever I touch the mute button or the volume control (whether I'm in a game, at the desktop, in email, etc.), Microsoft Excel is launched. I have Office 2003 Professional.

Any suggestions on how to correct this?

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your keys are not mapped correctly. Does HP have some utiliity that does that for your system?

Also check the control panel and keyboard. You might be able to map those keys there.

Hello, I was also having this problem with my HP dv41120us and found a solution that works!

The mute icon on my keyboard keeps on making a sound whenever it turns to orange color. Also most of the time, my laptop just freezes and I'm thinking might be something related to my sound device. Most of the suggestion here says you have to reinstall your sound driver. They are correct but you need to install the correct driver else they won't work.

The driver I used is sp41693.exe which can be download from HP (just google it I'm sure you'll find where to download it). Hope that helps. Good luck!

Thanks JPEG. I downloaded and reinstalled (the same) HP drivers but it did not fix the problem...

    Hi, Saltgrass.

I looked in Control Panel, Keyboard but did not see the ability to map the 'pressure sensative' buttons on the bezel (they are not part of the regular keyboard...)

His model is different from yours. Downloading the same drivers won't work.

Can you list the exact model of your dv7 please?

I did not download his. I went to the HP site and entered model VM192UA#ABA which is on the tag on the bottom of my laptop.

    Thanks.
